Typical interview questions to prepare for
Tell me more about yourself When employers ask this they are not looking to hear your life story! They want to hear highlights from your CV that complement the job and organisation, your ambitions and what you have currently achieved.
Tell me what you know about the company?
What value can you add to the company?/Why do you want this job? This is a great question to sell yourself so don’t be afraid to show off what you have achieved. This can be related from inside or outside a job role but try and relate it to something where you have personally made an impact professionally.
Tell me about a time in work where you faced a conflict and how you overcame it?
Is there a gap in your employment?
Where do you see yourself five years from now?
What is your salary expectation?
What are your strengths?
What are your weaknesses?
What was your reason for leaving your last job? Again keep it positive and professional. It could be you were not challenged by your last position, wanted a change in direction or didn’t feel inspired by the leader of your last organisation.
Is there anything you would like to ask me?
After the Interview
Actions to take E.g send across referee details, let employer know availability for 2nd interview
Send a thank you note This will complement your work and make you stand out from the other applicants
Notes Write down any information the employer has told you that is important. This could be names, salary figures, department details, etc. That can help you for any follow up questions or if you have a second interview.
